FARNHAM Repair Cafe has celebrated its 1,000th repair since launching in 2015.
Unsuspecting visitor Barbara Johnson received the fanfare on Saturday as she helped take the cafe past its milestone.
She received a gift to mark the landmark occasion – and better still, volunteers were able to fix her faulty product; the popular board game Perfection.
Farnham Repair Cafe – a partnership between the Centre for Sustainable Design, Farnham Town Council and The Spire Church – offers a monthly space for people to come and get their products fixed for free and “share in the repair”.
To-date, the cafe has held 52 events at the church in South Street, and has diverted exactly three tonnes of otherwise-broken products away from landfill.
Repair stations typically cover electrical/electronics, mechanical, bicycles and clothing/apparel – fixing faulty products ranging from vacuum cleaners to head phones, lights, hats, jackets, bags, baby strollers and bicycles.
As well as celebrating its 1,000th repair, the cafe also welcomed three researchers from Taiwan last Saturday, keen to learn how the repair cafe achieves a 66 per cent repair rate and 98 per cent customer satisfaction levels.
Farnham Repair Cafe will host its next session at The Spire Church on Saturday, September 14, from 10am to 1pm.
The cafe is also on the lookout for new volunteers to help the team on the welcome desk; and is always open to new repairers skilled in the above areas.
