AGE UK Surrey is teaming up with Virgin Care to bring some Christmas cheer to Haslemere Community Hospital.
A joint appeal has been launched for donations of presents for older patients who might otherwise be alone on wards over the holiday period.
Last year’s appeal triggered a tremendous response from volunteers and supporters in Surrey, keen to donate presents and handmade cards for older patients staying in over Christmas on wards in Virgin Care community hospitals across the county.
Suggestions for donations include, simple, practical presents that could help make a difference, such as small gift bags with toiletries and bed socks.
As well delivering some festive cheer to the town hospital, Age UK Surrey and Virgin Care will also present donated gifts to patients in community hospitals in Milford, Walton and Woking.
Sue Zirps, chief executive of Age UK Surrey, said: “We are so delighted to be working with the community hospitals again this year to bring gifts to older people at Christmas. Small acts of kindness make such a difference to older people’s lives.
“A gift at Christmas is a way of showing people that they are remembered and can bring some joy and happiness. On behalf of older people who receive a donated gift this Christmas, we thank you.”
*Donations can be dropped off at Age UK’s Rex House, William Road, Guildford GU1 4QZ and The Hub, 94 High St, Godalming GU7 1DW, by Wednesday, December 14.
