A plaque has been unveiled to remember resident Bob Weighton, an Alton Local Food Initiative supporter who died in 2020 as the world’s oldest man, aged 112.

In 2011 he made two noticeboards with hinged glass fronts for two ALFI plots. The group honoured his memory by fixing the plaque to a planter at its newest plot in front of the BT building by Station Road. It was unveiled by town mayor Cllr Ginny Boxall, watched by Caroline Weighton and her children Elin and Esben, Bob’s great-grandchildren.

ALFI’s Harvest Feast is in Alton Methodist Hall on October 8 from 10am to 1pm.
