MEMBERS of Haslemere Decorative and Fine Arts Society visited Haslemere Museum to see two projects it has supported.

Camelsdale Primary School took inspiration from the museum’s Egyptian collection to create a display in reception at the museum which was sponsored and organised by HDFAS.

Year five pupils drew portraits of their friends which they then traced and turned into profile pictures.

Colour was added and the images transformed into Egyptian portraits. Papyrus, golden masks and urns were also created and are on display until the end of the month.

The second project is displayed in the museum’s world Ethnographical cabinet.

A Japanese kimono has replaced the Indian over-robe that was the first costume to be displayed on the tailor’s dummy presented by HDFAS to the ethnographic display.

This year, Eliza and Gabe Wilson, two members of the HYPE team, dressed the dummy in a striking black kimono, taking care to extend one of the arms to show it off to great effect.

Museum education officer Kay Topping said: “It is great HDFAS is keen to support young people and heritage art in the local area and we are very pleased to be able to put on these displays thanks to their support.”
