RESIDENTS living in a new residential development opposite Barons Hindhead say they are being driven mad by early morning deliveries to the BMW dealership.
A group of six objectors, whose houses overlook the showroom, have complained to both the owners and Waverley Borough Council, complaining they are being woken up by the early morning deliveries made just after 5am.
“This has been going on for two years since we moved in,” Kathryn Brousson said.
“I can’t understand how deliveries are allowed so early in a residential area. I know the milkman is not allowed to deliver before 7.30am and he just has an electric float. The Barons deliveries are made in huge lorries.
“We are at our wits end. We have all filled in a noise diary for Waverley and hope action can be taken. I am now boarding up my windows at night.”
Barons Hindhead business head Peter Wakefield told The Herald the company prided itself on being a good neighbour and had taken action to address the residents’ concerns.
He said: “Barons Hindhead have been representing BMW from this site for over 30 years and we have always tried to accommodate our neighbours and local community – and indeed are, and have been, supporters of lots of local charity organisations locally for most of that time. So we take our responsibility to the local community very seriously.
“Since the building of residential houses nearby, we have indeed changed our security lighting and altered delivery times wherever possible to take into account new residents, the delivery referred to is an overnight parts delivery which delivers the parts needed to be able to carry out the following day’s work and in light of the complaints we are working with BMW and their delivery partners to try to alter the timings to suit as best as we all practically can.
“We acknowledge the correspondence and advice from Waverley Borough Council and they are aware of the above actions we are undertaking.”
A Waverley Borough Council spokesman told The Herald: “In response to noise complaints relating to early morning deliveries to Barons BMW, Waverley’s environmental health service contacted the dealership to make it aware of the disruption it is causing residents. The council is working to ensure Barons BMW organises its deliveries at a later time.
“If the noise persists, the council will install noise monitoring devices to determine if any further action is needed.”
