WAVERLEY borough is the sixth best place to live in the UK for quality of life according to the latest study by Halifax.

The borough has moved up four places in the league tables since last year, going from 10th to sixth.

Hart Borough, across the border in north-east Hampshire, came top of the league, for the fifth year in succession, while Guildford was ranked eighth, up from 23rd last year.

The south east dominates the table in 2015, securing seven of the top 10 places.

The rating is based on factors such as jobs, housing, health, crime, weather and personal well-being and the report uses statistics from various sources including the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Met Office.

Waverley Borough Council’s leader Robert Knowles, who represents Haslemere for the Conservatives, said: “Although I’m thrilled that Waverley has remained in the top 10 places to live for quality of life, as well as moving up four places in the league tables, I’m not at all surprised.

“We live in a fantastic borough with so many great things to shout about, including the beautiful countryside and award winning parks across Waverley, the modern leisure centres with top of the range facilities, the great services delivered day to day by the council - not to mention the wealth of beautiful towns and villages which we live in.”
