A CHIDDINGFOLD man is taking on a 24-hour tennis marathon to raise money for three charities.

Jeremy Bennett is taking on his challenge at the indoor Guildford Tennis Academy, which is based at Rodborough School in Milford, from 4pm on Thursday, October 28 to 4pm on Friday, October 29.

The 24 hours is split into sessions for juniors and adults to go along and play with Jeremy, who will be on court throughout.

All abilities are catered for, with sessions for beginners and advanced players, and Jeremy hopes his passion for tennis will rub off on other people.

"It would be great to see some people who haven’t played tennis before," said Jeremy. "This marathon is an inclusive event and I want people to enjoy tennis as much as I do, whether they are four or 40.

"I might need to be carried off court at the end, but I think my fitness will be fine. I won’t be playing at grand slam intensity, but I will be on court for 24 hours. I’ve been advised to eat bananas, have lots of pairs of socks and a couple of pairs of trainers."

Jeremy is raising money for Cancer Research UK, Cerebral Palsy Sport and NHS Charities Together, and said the three causes are all close to his heart.

"I’ve done sponsored runs before but I love tennis," said Jeremy.

"Any chance to play, I’m out on court.

"Tennis has always been a passion of mine - my father introduced me to it when I was eight.

"I lost my father to cancer in 2020 and that gave me a drive to do something.

"My son has very mild cerebral palsy and I want to support others being active as much as we are.

"I also want to say thank you to the NHS for everything they have done over the past 18 months."

Some slots are still available across the 24 hours. Visit www.facebook.com/events/617039299263013 for more information. Tennis rackets can be provided.
