Police investigating a spate of car thefts and burglaries across Bordon and Liphook at the end of January have now charged a man.

Gary Steven Crawley, 34, of Birdlip Road in Portsmouth, has been charged with:

  • Seven counts of theft from motor vehicle,

  • One count of burglary (non-dwelling),

  • One count of burglary (dwelling),

  • Three counts of attempted burglary (dwelling),

  • Four counts of vehicle interference,

  • One count of taking a vehicle without consent,

  • One count of driving without insurance and

  • Two counts of fraud by false representation.

The charges are in connection with the following incidents, all of which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, January 31:

  • A vehicle was broken into outside of a property on Victoria Way and a set of keys were taken.

  • A garage was broken into at an address on Canada Way. Nothing was taken. A second property on Canada Way was also targeted. 

  • A key was taken from a car and two bicycles were taken from a garage at the address.

  • A set of keys was taken from inside a vehicle on Terracotta Way. An unsuccessful attempt was made to gain access to the address.

  • A vehicle was broken into on Brickwork Avenue and a high-value coat and phone charger were taken.

  • Entry was gained to vehicles on Goldfinch Avenue, Heron Way and Lark Rise. Nothing was taken.

  • Two vehicles were broken into on Heron Way. An item of clothing was taken from one of the vehicles and a mobile phone, tools and cash was taken from the second vehicle.

  • An unsuccessful attempt was made to gain entry to a property on Lark Rise.

  • A wallet and car keys were taken from a property on Tunbridge Crescent. The keys were used to steal a vehicle from outside of the property. A bank card from the wallet was later used.

  • A purse was stolen from a vehicle on Fletcher’s Field, a bank card from the purse was later used.

Crawley was due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
