Magistrates have issued a warrant for the arrest of a Milland man who failed to answer charges of driving under the influence of drugs earlier this month.

Stephen Hutton, 52, of Iping Road, Milland, stands accused of driving a Vauxhall Vivaro on the A3 at Ripley on May 4, 2022, when the proportion of controlled drug benzoylecgonine in his blood exceeded the legal limit.

He was found by police to have 94 micrograms of analyte per litre of blood, almost double the legal limit of 50 micrograms.

But a warrant for Mr Hutton's arrest was issued at Guildford Magistrates' Court on January 5 after he failed to attend a scheduled hearing.

On the grounds for a warrant, magistrates added the offence is "punishable with imprisonment in the case of a person who has attained the age of 18".
