A CHARITY day in memory of the father of two Amesbury pupils raised more than £11,000 for his three favourite causes.
Tom Clayden, whose sons Richard, 11, and eight-year-old Christopher attend the Hindhead prep school, died on May 6 last year from a sudden and catastrophic brain haemorrhage.
The event was held in aid of three charities close to his heart – Wooden Spoon, The Kings World Trust, and Dreams Come True.
Families and friends marked the first anniversary of his death with a 12-hour relay run on Sunday, a shorter fun run, and an evening concert to raise funds.
Teams made up from 27 runners raced along the South Downs Way in relay, each running between four and eight miles before handing on the baton, with five ultra-runners going it alone.
The first team started the run of nearly 70 miles at 5am from Eastbourne and the last weary runners finished at 5pm.
The day was a way for everyone to come together and remember Tom's wide toothy grin and overwhelming capacity for fun.
His widow, Ellie, said: "I believe Tom's memorial day held at the school encapsulated all of his personality. It was great fun, everyone was incredibly generous both giving up their time and sponsoring the runners, and I hope new friendships were forged that will continue for years to come.
"Thank you to everyone who took part to make it such a special day."
