A STYLISH addition to Haslemere Museum means items from its impressive collection of costumes from around the world can be displayed with a flourish.
Haslemere Decorative and Fine Arts Society (HDFAS) donated a tailor’s dummy to show off choice items from the museum’s large wardrobe in a rotating display.
The Haslemere young people’s exhibition (HYPE) team have dressed it first of all in an embroidered dress from India, which features delicate hand stitching in cream floss silk satin and herringbone needlework.
Museum education officer Kay Topping said: “We are incredibly grateful for this very generous donation from Haslemere DFAS.
“It will enable us to display some of the beautiful clothes from our museum collection. The HYPE team really enjoyed choosing the costumes and it was lovely to see them getting involved.”
• Pupils from Northchapel School took over the museum as part of national initiative, Kids in Museums Takeover Day.
They worked alongside staff and volunteers, helping with the Early Years session, visiting the archive room to choose Christmas cards for a museum display and in the museum shop.
They also greeted visitors when they arrived. and took charge of the heart of the museum.
Maggie Monteath from Kids In Museums presented the year six pupils with certificates as a reward for all their hard work.
