CHOICE exhibits evoking different aspects of Haslemere’s rich past are on display in an exhibition charting the history of the town.
The History of Haslemere exhibition is on display at the town museum until the end of the month, and the trip down memory lane includes a roll call of guests staying locally in the late 1880s, courtesy of the hotel’s visitor’s book (above).
Also on show are decorative pieces of Hammer Vale Pottery, made at the pottery works of Radley Young and William Stallworthy in Shottermill between 1901 and 1911, and toy buildings and animals dating from the early 1900s that were handcrafted by Godfrey Blount.
He founded Haslemere Peasant Industries, an umbrella organisation for a number of small workshops that revived craft traditions employing local skilled labour.
Museum curator Julia Tanner said: “This exhibition is a great opportunity for visitors to learn more about the town’s rich heritage and the story boards cover all aspects of Haslemere’s great history and include some wonderful old photographs.”
