SURREY County Council will axe Haslemere's Saturday dustcart service once the new Witley Community Recycling Centre is up and running next year.

It means people in Haslemere who want to dispose of general waste, including unrecyclable household items, will have to drive seven miles through narrow rural lanes to the Witley centre.

Hundreds of residents, many of whom do not have access to a car, use the facility in Wey Hill's fairground car park every week.
