BOHUNT Sixth Form will be formally declared open by world-renowned scientist Professor Robert Winston next month.
He will give a speech entitled “Why Bother with Science” as well address current students and staff and take part in a tour of the state-of-the-art building, which opened last year.
The official opening during the top scientist’s visit will take place on Wednesday, April 18.
Bohunt’s sixth form is on course to welcome more students from eight different schools at the start of the new academic year in September.
All applicants so far have had guidance interviews and offers have been sent out. The new students will join the current upper sixth in the new college building and are due to benefit from an even wider range of courses.
To accommodate the growing interest and increasing applications, the sixth form college is adding sociology and media studies to the large range of A levels on offer.
New students will join existing ones who are currently beginning their applications to top universities and conservatories.
They will be able to participate in the many opportunities already on offer, including collaborations with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Gold Duke of Edinburgh and the Institute of Researchers in schools science programme.
Baron Robert Winston is a British professor, medical doctor, scientist, and Labour Party politician, as well as the presenter of many BBC television series, including Your Life in Their Hands, Making Babies, Superhuman, The Secret Life of Twins, Child of Our Time, Human Instinct, The Human Mind, Frontiers of Medicine and the BAFTA award-winner The Human Body.
