A NEW beginning for Hindhead was officially celebrated on Friday last week as the village's traffic nightmares were finally banished by the completion of the last piece in the A3 tunnel jigsaw.

Poul Christensen, the chairman of Natural England, was guest of honour at the final meeting of Hindhead Together to mark the completion of a major traffic improvement scheme engineered to breathe new life into the community.

Highways Agency contractors have finished the last remaining roadworks and remodelled a 1.4-mile section of the old A3, now dubbed the A333.
