SUSSEX Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman from Easbourne died in a crash involving four cars on the A272, west of Petworth.
The fatal crash happened at around 6.20pm on Monday evening between Brookfield Lane and Dean Lane, Tillington when a black BMW 323i travelling eastwards was in a head-on collision with a black Fiat Panda.
It then struck a red Nissan Qashqai, travelling in an eastbound direction, which then hit a roadside tree, police said.
A grey Ford Mondeo driven by a 40 year-old Worthing man was also involved in the incident. The Fiat driver, a 59-year-old woman, from Easebourne, died at the scene.
The A272 was closed in both directions until just before 1.30am.
• SURREY Police are appealing for information are tw vehicles collided head-on on the A283 Petworth Road, on November 13.
The vehicles involved were a blue Ford Focus Zetec and a black Ford S-Max Zetec.
The ambulance service attended as some of the occupants suffered minor injuries.
The road half a mile from Chiddingfold was closed for around an hour from just after 4pm, while emergency services dealt with the incident and the vehicles were recovered.
