The 2018 Haslemere Fringe Festival wowed the crowds from Friday evening through til Sunday night with music, comedy, poetry, dance and drama on and around three main stages.

The not-for-profit event mounted by volunteers and held every two years, raised a record sum for Haslemere Festival and The Royal British Legion, with Saturday a sell-out and ‘massive’ turnouts for Friday night and Sunday.

Saturday headiners Scouting For Girls – who played their first big hit She’s So Lovely and their 2014 England World Cup song I Still Believe were a big draw.

Multi-million selling 1970s soul band The Real Thing, topped the bill on Sunday and had the audience up and dancing with their No. 1 hit You To Me Are Everything and the follow-up Can’t Get Buy Without You.

Friday night’s headliners were Rews rock band.

Comedy star Bobby Davro went down a treat on Saturday, as did Lucy Spraggan, who appeared on the X Factor in 2012, and Reuben Gray, a 17-year-old singer/songwriter who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent last year.

Woolmer Hill was thrilled to win the Poetry Slam Cup for the first time in the hotly competition for schools in the town.

Fringe committee chairman Ken Griffiths, said: “What a result for the fifth Haslemere Fringe Festival and what a line-up.

“We had a massive turnout on all three occasions – particularly Saturday – only 12 tickets left on Saturday morning and they sold quickly.

“Huge thanks to the Fringe committee organisers, the hard workers on the three bars and our wonderful army of volunteers – you know who you are. Also thanks for all the lovely people who came and supported us.”
