The Herald understands detectives investigating three raids in Farnham, Bagshot and Chertsey since the end of August had warned other clubs in the county that thieves were targeting trophies – some from very historic and well-known amateur competitions – in order to have them melted down.
But the thieves struck for a second time in south-west Surrey, this month, before they could be moved.
