A SPECTACULAR addition to the nationwide commemorations to mark the end of The Great War took shape at St Christopher’s Church on Thursday, as part of the Haslemere Centenary Project.
A dramatic double cascade of poppies hand made by pupils at eight Haslemere schools now hangs from the church tower.
Volunteers helped move the new flagpole from J E Homewood’s yard to St Christopher’s and it was craned into position with the newly restored cross on top.
Surrey archdeacon the Venerable Paul Davies will lead a special service of dedication at the church on Sunday, when a new flag of St George presented by the town branch of The Royal Society of St George will be unfurled to fly from the flagpole.
