HASLEMERE 7
RAYNES PARK 12
HASLEMERE are still seeking their first rugby Surrey 3 league win, but this was another spirited performance.
The Haslemere defence was again tested to the limit in the first half and try-saving by Aarron Currie, Ollie Landerer and Steve Bunyon kept Raynes Park at bay.
A period of sustained pressure in the Haslemere 22 was finally relieved by turn-over ball for John Heather and Pete Daly and it was against the run of play that Raynes Park eventually went ahead with a converted try.
From the kick-off, Haslemere gained possession and it took a fine tackle to deny wing Tom Robson a try.
Soon after, however, centre Tom Pearse broke through the Park defence to score between the posts and Bunyon converted to make it 7-7 at half-time.
Haslemere secured more ball in the second half, but struggled to string together any prolonged passages of play, with the Raynes Park defence working well to snuff out attacks.
Twenty minutes into the half, the ball broke loose and the visitors reacted fastest, kicking through and scoring once again down the left.
The conversion was missed and there was still time for Haslemere to reply, but their efforts became more and more desperate and the Park defence held firm.
So it's five consecutive defeats for promoted Haslemere who prop up the Surrey 3 table.
