A NEW £6m state-of-the-art urology centre at Royal Surrey County Hospital has been opened by The Duke of Kent.
The Stokes Centre for Urology, which will deliver cutting edge treatment and research for patients from across Surrey and beyond, was built with £3m from more than 9,000 donations through the Prostate Project and is named after its founder.
The Duke of Kent was given a guided tour by consultant urological surgeon Professor Stephen Langley, who is one of the world’s leading prostate cancer specialists.
The Royal Surrey is already one of the largest centres for the treatment of prostate cancer in Europe and among the top centres in the world, achieving some of the best outcomes for patients using the latest robotic surgical techniques and prostate brachytherapy.
Colin Stokes, chairman and co-founder of the Prostate Project, said: “This wonderful day is the culmination of ten years intensive fundraising. I want to thank every one of the thousands of generous supporters who have helped create this new centre.
“We believe it is the largest NHS investment in urological services for a decade.”
