WAVERLEY moved swiftly this week to deny it has plans to redevelop the site of a thriving youth facility for housing.

Fears for the future of the borough-council owned youth campus in Wey Hill have been fuelled by Waverley's continued failure to renew the 28-year lease for 1st Haslemere Scouts, which expired at the end of 2011.

Concerns about the delay have been exacerbated by reported interim communications with the group from officers that alternative uses were being explored for the site with the possibility of the Scouts relocating to The Herons.

Worried by Waverley's protracted failure to renew the lease, despite more than a year of lobbying, the Scouts group issued an appeal last week for help.
