FINAL preparations for this year’s Surrey Para Games are being made, with kayaker and aspiring Olympian 20-year-old Chris Carson lending his support.
Chris, from Shalford, has had to overcome many hurdles along the way as he suffers with autism, dyscalculia and dyslexia, as well as a condition known as sensory integration disorder.
Despite these issues, and with the support of Charterhouse Club, Godalming, he has his sights set on competing in the Olympic Games.
Now in its sixth year, the Surrey Para Games will take place next Thursday, July 4, and are open to all Surrey school children in Years 7 to 10 with special educational needs and disabilities.
Participants rotate around three different sports at one central venue – Charterhouse Club.
Sports include boccia, cricket, cycling, football, rowing, rugby, tennis and sitting volleyball.
Surrey Para Games, founded by South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt, also enables sports talent identification and links with national governing bodies of sport talent pathways.
