FORMER professional head of the British Army General Lord Richard Dannatt is spearheading a new Prostate Project charity campaign Waging War on Prostate Cancer.

The new initiative to engage with men aged between 50 and 70 was launched at the Stokes Centre for Urology in Royal Surrey County Hospital.

The brainchild of the charity’s president, Tim Sharp, it has three offensives: Awareness and diagnosis; Early stage cancer; advanced stage cancer.

The first to be fought by fighting apathy, ignorance and embarrassment with PSA testing days and GP tutorial seminars.

The second by fundraising for the Stokes Centre, and the third by fundraising for Surrey University cancer research team.

Lord Dannatt said: “In any theatre of war, it is vital to understand your enemy – their strengths, their weaknesses and their behaviour.

“The same disciplines are needed to effectively fight cancer. I urge everyone to support the Prostate Project’s battle with this insidious disease.”

The hope is, with Lord Dannatt’s help, to extend the campaign’s reach by engaging with the British Army – initially at Aldershot – under the care of Royal Surrey and Frimley Park Hospital.
