SURREY Lord Lieutenant Michael More-Molyneux cut the ribbon at the launch of a new sensory garden at Hydon Hill Care Home near Milford.
Thanks to donations from generous supporters, including Harry Hall, who owns Milford’s Tuesley soft fruit farm and provided the woodwork, paving and labour, the garden was finished in just three months.
A skydive by seven intrepid staff and volunteers has raised £4,500 towards the next phase of the project, which will provide the Leonard Cheshire Disability Home with a cafe and gallery.
Guests at the garden opening were treated to a cream tea and live music by local band Twentyfivemiles.
“I’m really thrilled to open the garden,” Mr More-Molyneux said. “I have a close family connection, as my father actually built part of the main section of the homes.
“The biggest privilege I have in my role is visiting people who rely on the voluntary sector. Surrey would not be as rich as it is without the huge support of volunteers.”
Elisabeth Tovell, chairman of the residents association, added: “It’s a very, very, nice garden. The garden project was started by Mark Bradshaw a few years ago.”
