AN ‘AMBER’ weather warning has been issued by the Met Office after a flurry of snow fell across Surrey and Hampshire overnight on Thursday.

Forecasters warn that further snowfall is expected during Friday, with as much as 5cm new snow expected in places on top of any existing snow cover.

Current forecasts give a 60 per cent chance of further snowfall in the region between 3pm and 7pm on Friday.

As a result, the Met Office warns travel delays on roads are likely, stranding some vehicles and passengers.

Some delays and cancellations to rail are also likely, and perhaps air travel.

And there is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off.

Power cuts are likely and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.
