HASLEMERE Town Council's planning and highways committee will look again to see whether it will support a campaign for 20mph speed limits in the town. It follows a decision in June, when the committee voted to send a letter to the county authority, saying it had "extreme reservations" about a 20mph restriction on Lower Street and High Street, the main roads into the town centre, although not objecting to lower limits on residential roads. But the letter was later withdrawn, with the issue then referred to a meeting of all town councillors. Last week Jeremy Leach from "20s Plenty for Us" made a presentation to the council on the benefits of 20mph speed limits. The group wants to see all communities more "people friendly" by reducing speeds in town centres as well as on residential roads. For full story, see this week's Haslemere Herald.
