A TRAIL of oil along several main roads around the Surrey/Hampshire border caused hazardous driving conditions for motorists during the Tuesday morning rush hour.

The first reports of diesel on the road were received around 4am, and there were long delays as traffic was backed up from Guildford, along the Hogs Back and along the A3, causing tailbacks as far as Milford.

One lane on the A3 northbound was closed as police dealt with a number of minor accidents along the route as drivers lost control in the treacherous slicks that formed.
