HASLEMERE traders concerned high parking charges in the High Street and "over zealous" on-street parking enforcement are damaging the town have renewed their calls for urgent action. County councillor Nikki Barton joined forces with Haslemere Chamber of Trade last week to press Guilford Borough Council, which carries out on-street parking enforcement on behalf of the county council, and Waverley Borough Council – which operates the four town car parks – to provide incentives to attract more shoppers and boost local businesses. Mrs Barton raised concerns with Kevin McKee, who heads Guildford's enforcement team, while chamber president Craig McGowan and vice-president David Goddin met Waverley's economic development and community team.
