HASLEMERE Performing Arts members gave a dramatic demonstration of their talents at Haslewey Community Centre, at Wey Hill, in the run up to the group’s 50th anniversary show at Princes Hall, Aldershot.
Founder and principal Angela Cantan, launched the group as the Denise School of Dancing in 1968 and is celebrating five decades of teaching dance and, latterly musical theatre in and around Haslemere.
The school offers classes in ballet, modern, tap, adult tap and gymnastics, with the opportunity to take part in dance competitions and local productions.
“The ethos of HPA is to give dance and drama opportunities to local children without charging high fees,” she said.
“The school is now multi-cultural and going from strength to strength, supported by an excellent creative team of professional teachers, student teachers and dedicated parents.
“Nearly 200 members ranging in age from three years to adults, performed an exciting and varied programme in Aldershot, of dance and musical theatre numbers.
“Since 2018 is an anniversary year, there will also be a special show at Haslemere Hall, on September 16, where former pupils can take part in dance routines.
“Anyone interested in performing should contact HPA as soon as possible. HPA shows are renowned for high standards, varied music and dance styles, outstanding costumes – provided by the school, not paid for by parents – and special effects. I’m now looking forward to the next 50 years.”
