By Councillor LYNN EVANS – East Hampshire District Council chairman

ONE of the most enjoyable elements of my role is meeting the people who volunteer so willingly to keep our community the strong and caring one that it is.

These selfless volunteers offer support, companionship, transport or advice for so many people.

They are there to help vulnerable or elderly residents and they are there to guide young people to amazing achievements through organisations such as the Scouts, Guides, Cadets or many others.

I was privileged to attend a Volunteer Award Ceremony recently and was humbled by the time volunteers devote to their causes.

We also have many fundraisers who support these organisations and many local charities.

In particular I was able to attend a cheque presentation ceremony where money raised by September’s Charity Walk for Peace, arranged by the Elders of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, was presented to a large number of charities.

Across the district huge numbers of our residents work for the benefit of others helping them live happier, healthier and more fulfilled lives.

So while we all reflect on our own Christmas celebrations please remember all these caring wonderful people and give generously to any charity which could improve someone else’s life going forward.

A very happy and prosperous New Year to you all.
