Looking back on 2025: The stories that shaped Haslemere Mr Munro, who took up office at Surrey Police headquarters in Guildford. last Thursday, after ousting former independent police commissioner Kevin Hurley, pledged to resign as a councillor if elected in the PCC election to concentrate on his new role.
But though he still intends to step down as a borough and county councillor for Farnham, Mr Munro has postponed his resignations until the day after the referendum on the UK’s European Union membership, on June 23.
He told The Herald: “I am stepping down from both Surrey and Waverley. However, I have received strong representations from within the party not to resign until the referendum is out of way, so the by-elections can rightly focus on local issues.
“Reluctantly, therefore, I’ve agreed to stay on until late June. But the principle’s the same.
“It’s not fair on residents for me to try to do two demanding jobs at once.”
