STUDENTS came up with all kinds of fun activities to help swell Children in Need’s record-breaking total of £50.1 million last Friday night.

Midhurst Rother College joined organisations and individual across the UK keen to support the BBC’s UK corporate charity to raise money for disadvantaged children and young people.

Pulling out all the stops, the college’s sixth form charities committee mounted a popular ‘Guess the Teacher’ historic photos challenge at £1 a go, a cake sale and £1 donations to join its first non-uniform day.

“Each year Children in Need makes a difference to the lives of children and young people,” college spokesman Sam Jones said.

“Last year MRC raised a little over £1,000, which would have supported one of the many grants to fulfil their vision. As a community where we promote respect, we aim to better last year’s achievement.

“Our sixth form charities committee planned the events allowing all students to support this fantastic appeal.”

Royal Junior School prep five pupil, Annabelle, stepped into action to support Children in Need by organising a cake sale, that was so successful it turned into a two-day event.

“We could not believe the amount of cakes that came into school on Monday,” she said. “There were so many in fact that we held another cake sale on Tuesday,

“We raised an enormous £265. Thank you so much to all who baked such delicious cakes and to all who bought them.”

Junior school head Kerrie Daunter added: “Annabelle planned and executed this fund-raising event with such enthusiasm and excellent organisation.

“We are so proud of the way she demonstrated all our seven ‘C’s – commitment, compassion, courage, creativity, curiosity, co-operation and Christianity.

“Her commitment to such a fantastic cause was very impressive.”

• Northchapel Primary School raised money with a sponsored ‘funky footwear’ day when pupils rocked up sporting fancy tights, odd socks, weird shoes and even shoes on the wrong feet.
