Love Haslemere Hate Waste’s repair café has celebrated its first full year of fixing broken items.

For the past 12 months, volunteers have met at Haslemere Town Hall, providing a drop-in service and welcoming everyone with broken items. To date, the team has repaired more than 350 items.

Victoria Page, founder of Love Haslemere Hate Waste, said: “I’m so hugely proud of the repair café and the dedicated team of repairers that are out in force every month without fail fixing what’s broken.

“Especially as we endure the cost-of-living crisis, the repair café provides a valuable service to every Haslemere resident. And it’s all down to the generosity, commitment and skill of the ministry of menders.”

Jennifer Edwards, a repairer, said: “I taught myself to sew during lockdown and I love being able to share my skills now with the Haslemere community through the repair café.

“More than that, I’ve learnt new skills from other repairers, as we talk together about how to repair each item. I’ve also made some wonderful new friends. If you have repair skills, and you’d like to join us, everyone is welcome to pop by.”

The first birthday celebrations were hosted by the Fernhurst Hub, which provided tea and coffee to volunteer repairers.

The next repair café will be held at Haslemere Town Hall from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, November 5.
