SURREY has warned its Local Area Committee budgets could be reduced by up to 50 per cent due to a big cut in the county council’s government support grant.

Haslemere’s county councillor Nikki Barton has earmarked priority road schemes for the town including a scheme to alleviate Sturt Road bridge flooding and resurfacing a section of Kings Road, near the entrance to Haslemere Leisure Centre.

There are ongoing schemes for vehicle activated signs (VAS) in Grayswood. Red road markings have been installed on the Hindhead Road coming into the town, denoting a 30mph zone and plans for a Hindhead “gateway” are ongoing.

Road markings designed to improve safety outside Grayswood School have also been added. The next Waverely Local Area Committee meeting is at Godalming Baptist Church, in Queen Street, on Thursday, March 18, from 1.30pm.
