A PET labrador is recovering from a potentially fatal adder bite while being taken for a walk in one of Hindhead’s favourite beauty spots, thanks to the quick actions of its owner and her friend.

Diana Cant was walking her dog Stig at Hindhead’s Devil’s Punch Bowl when the dog suddenly became very lethargic and unwell. They were about 10 minutes from the car park past the wooden stairs.

“I was first concerned as the normally very bouncy dog was lethargic and walking behind me,” said Ms Cant.

Stig’s mouth became swollen and the dog yelped in pain.

He was given life-saving intravenous anti-venom at Total Pet Care in Haslemere. Vetinary nurse Kirsty Buss said: “It’s the second one we have seen this year.”
