Penny Self, who led the selection panel to choose the winning contestant from five possible candidates, told The Herald: “It was lovely to have applicants of such a high standard.
“We very much hope that the four who are not to be queen will be the attendants and will come back next year and try again.
“The future queen is 12-year-old Jenny Melia, who is at school at Woolmer Hill, in Haslemere.
“Her main hobby is dancing which takes up a lot of her spare time, but all the young girls had a string of interests ranging from trampolining, acting and riding, to cricket, scouts and more.”
Jenny’s four attendants will join heralds, flowers gatherers and crown bearers for rehearsals for the big day, on Sunday, May 21, which will also feature displays of falconry, archery, live music, a dog show, fancy dress competitions, children’s races, stalls, games, a hog roast, a silent auction.
