FINAL confirmation that the drive to build a multi-storey car park at Haslemere railway station as a speedy "fix" to town parking problems has stalled has been provided by Department for Transport officials.
But South West Trains has agreed to investigate the financial feasibility of providing an extra 210 spaces at the station.
Representatives from local MP Jeremy Hunt's office, South West Trains, Haslemere Town Council, Waverley Borough Council and Surrey County Council, Haslemere Chamber of Commerce were told it was not financially possible to provide 460 parking spaces in the near future, by civil servants at a meeting arranged by Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin.
