FOLLOWING a £3 million refurbishment, Haslemere’s old Inn on the Hill re-opens as The Station House later this month.

The historic 19th-century railway tavern opposite the town station is owned by Hampshire-based Upham Pub Company (UPC).

The new pub and brasserie will re-open on Tuesday, November 22, accommodating 130 diners with 40 covers in an outdoor terrace area, as well as offering 16 boutique bedrooms.

Extending over two floors, The Station House has been given a complete overhaul by designers Simmons Associates from Grayshott.

The original Victorian inn has been styled to reflect a French brasserie, while celebrating its railway heritage, to create a modern twist on an art deco inspired style.

The bar area will include craft ale from the Upham Brewery, with a glass-fronted cafe area, a more formal brasserie area and an open air terrace.

The new business has created more than 50 full and part-time jobs. Team members have been recruited locally and from existing Upham pubs, as part of the group’s training programme to nurture ambitious individuals in the hospitality sector.

UPC chief executive Chris Phillips said: “We’ve always wanted to bring an Upham pub to Haslemere.

“It’s a vibrant town and The Station House will bring a unique all-day dining and drinking experience to its existing food and drink scene. It is unlike any other Upham pub, but customers will be guaranteed the same quality service, local and seasonal produce and fantastic atmosphere that we’re committed to.

“With The Station House being ideally located directly opposite the train station, it makes for the perfect destination for commuters to pop in for their morning breakfast, coffee on the go, or for an after work drink and we look forward to welcoming the people of Haslemere through its doors.”

Simmons Associates director Philip Simmons said: “We are thrilled to be working with Upham again on another of their exciting projects.

“This site is our biggest refurbishment for Upham to date and we are delighted to bring an Upham project so close to home

“Our brief was a French brasserie theme, but we have tried to retain the important railway heritage of this site and also to offer stylish and comfortable overnight guest accommodation.

“I’m confident Haslemere residents, shoppers and commuters will find The Station House a great new destination.”

The compnay has refurbished 15 pubs to date across Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Sussex and Wiltshire. Its Swan Inn, in Chiddingfold, was awarded Best Pub in Surrey in the National Pub and Bar Awards 2016.
