HASLEMERE and Chiddingfold volunteers met up with other residents from across the borough at a “thank-you” tea party for the vital work they do for their communities, hosted by the Mayor of Waverley, councillor Simon Inchbald.

More than 100 people attended the event at Charterhouse School at which the mayor gave a speech celebrating their contributions.

Mr Inchbald said: “It was a real honour to meet with so many amazing volunteers, who selflessly give up their time to benefit others.

“They do such an important job in helping to make our community the fantastic place it is. Many people don’t realise how much effort and time our volunteers give up for free.

“I felt very inspired after hearing many of their stories. Thank you to all who came and I do hope that you will continue your excellent work.”

All councillors were asked to nominate people working for charities, voluntary groups and not for profit organisations to attend the reception.

Guests included volunteers from the Community Meals Service, the Meath, Waverley Tenants’ Panel and village and community care groups.
