A YOUTH club and the town’s fringe festival were among Haslemere-based organisations to win grants from the town council in November.
Councillors sitting on Haslemere Town Council’s Grants Committee recommended a grant of £500 to A Place to be Youth Group.
Formed in 2005 because of a lack of facilities for teenagers on a Friday night, the independently run youth club meets at the Wey Centre in St Christopher’s Road.
It is mostly funded by charities including the Haslemere Challice Community Foundation for Surrey and Surrey High Sheriff’s youth awards, with some Waverley Borough Council grants and recent awards from Waitrose community fund.

Much to achieve before Waverley waves goodbye, says leader Paul FollowsA grant of £1,500 was also agreed towards next year’s Haslemere Fringe Festival, the family arts festival set to take place in July next year, featuring music, comedy, poetry, dance, art, theatre and film.
But Haslemere and Midhurst branch of the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) did not receive the £500 it applied for towards its Babytalk scheme- a drop-in breast feeding support group.
The service is provided for Haslemere, Midhurst, Lynchmere, Liphook and Chichester residents however councillors noted funding had not been sought from the corresponding town and parish councils.
An application from Sport Haslemere for £500 for its Create a Star scheme was recommended for deferral until the March grants committee meeting.
The scheme, under the auspices of Active Waverley, was jointly set up by Sport Haslemere and Haslemere Sports Association to give assistance to young sports people within the Haslemere, Grayswood, Hindhead and Grayshott area with the potential to represent Great Britain at future Olympics or other international events, who either live, are in full-time education, or compete for a club within the Haslemere area.
Applicants have to show evidence that they have potential to represent Great Britain at future Olympics or other international events. The scheme is regularly funded by donations from various organisations, including Haslemere Town Council, Surrey Community Foundation, Amesbury School, local businesses and Haslemere Sports Association.
The cash will come from this year’s “small grants” budget, while revenue grants for 2016/17 were also considered.
A grant of £5,000 for the Waverley HOPPA Community Transport hospital service and funding of £14,866.20 for Haslemere Visitor and Local Information Centre, based inside Haslemere Museum building, will come out of next year’s revenue budget for 2016/17.
