A VITAL plank in finalising Waverley’s new Local Plan, concerning the knock-on effects of building 8,500 houses has just been made public – but only in part.
Stages one and two of the long-awaited expert traffic impact report Waverley commissioned from Mott MacDonal can now be viewed on the Local Plan evidence and supporting documents page on the borough council website.
They concern the traffic impact on the A281 of building up to 3,400 new houses at Dunsfold Park and focus on key junctions in Bramley, Cranleigh, Shalford and Guildford.
No mitigation measures are proposed in Bramley by Dunsfold Park in its application for 1,800 new homes.
Mott MacDonald recommends installing traffic lights on the A281 at Bramley, as the existing mini-roundabout is “already over capacity”, and possibly restricting access to Snowdenham Lane, which leads to Godalming.
The report supports mitigation measures proposed by in Shalford and at the B2130 junction for Cranleigh and estimates putting signals on the Bramley junction in addition to the Shalford and Cranleigh junctions would bring the total cost to between £1.5million and £2million.
Stages one and two make no reference to the traffic impacts on smaller “feeder” roads of building up to 3,400 houses at Dunsfold Park, which objectors say will be used as shortcuts to main line rail stations and the A3.
