A happy coincidence ensured Amery Hill School in Alton avoided disruption from the National Education Union teachers' strike on February 1.

Speaking on the day of the strike, headteacher Steve Mann said: "It has not affected us today as we had already scheduled a whole school INSET day. The day was a planned INSET day which had been calendared in June 2022, when we had no knowledge of the future."

An INSET day is an abbreviation for an in-service training day, when teachers attend school for training and planning purposes but children are not present.
