THE 2018 Glyndebourne Tour coming to Woking will feature Glyndebourne’s first-ever production of Massenet’s great operatic fairytale Cinderella (Cendrillon) – on Friday, November 23 – and a revival of Tom Cairns’s opulent production of Verdi’s La Traviata on November 20 and 24.
And a third event will take audiences behind the scenes of the creation of the opera.
La traviata: Behind the Curtain on Wednesday, November 21 will take an in-depth look at Verdi’s masterpiece, with performance extracts featuring cover singers from the Tour 2018 production.
And you can be there for a gala event.
We have teamed up with The New Victoria Theatre for our winner to receive TWO free tickets to the behind-the-scenes event on November 21.
And before the show, you can join in the fun at a reception at the theatre.
To be in with a chance of winning, simply add your name and phone number to the form below, and post it to us.
We’ll pick a winner out of the hat on Monday, November 19, and get hold of the winner as soon as we can.
La Traviata: Behind the Curtain is a behind-the-scenes look at Verdi’s masterpiece presented by comedian Chris Addison, on Wednesday, November 21 from 6.30pm.
With an expansive look at the historical, social, and even medical context of Verdi’s opera, the event will take audiences on a journey: from the enthralling rhythms of Spanish dance via the neurological effects of watching Verdi, to the surprising origins of the paper hanky.
Chris Addison is a passionate opera fan who also presented the television coverage of Glyndebourne’s inaugural singing competition, the Glyndebourne Opera Cup.
He said: “I’m frankly a little bit over-excited to be working with Glyndebourne again and to get to have a tinker under the hood of Big Joe Verdi’s tragic masterpiece La Traviata.
“We’re going to see how it’s put together, how it works, why it works, which bits go where and why, and hopefully unlock this big-tuned, bouncy and most beloved of operas for newbies and super fans alike
“Drinking songs! Star-crossed lovers! Lingering death by consumption! Just like an evening round mine, in fact. Only with the addition of music that will set up camp in your head and refuse to leave.”
The production of Cinderella has been directed by Fiona Shaw (pictured above), last seen on our TV screens in the acclaimed Killing Eve BBC series.
