The Transition Haslemere group now has its own allotment in Collards Lane which it hopes to turn into a community garden. The group “put its name down” for an allotment a few years ago, and when some allotments came up at Collards Lane was awarded its first choice plot.

Over the next few weeks the group will start to clear rubbish, set up raised beds and a compost area, and start growing seedlings on windowsills.

Members are looking for donations of no longer needed gardening tools, a wheelbarrow, gardening hose and a garden shed (email [email protected]).

To get the project of the ground, if anyone would like to be part of the Transition Haslemere community garden email [email protected]

There is a chance to meet the group at its green drinks session, when there will also be a “seed-swap”, at the Royal Oak pub, in Critchmere Lane, on Thursday, March 2, from 7.30pm.

The theme for discussion for part of the evening is “How can we reduce the amount of plastic in our lives?”
