Waverley Cricket Club finished their season with a draw against Whiteditch Rams.

Put into bat, Waverley soon lost Jim Wright caught behind and Sam Tempest followed next ball. Simon Brewer (18) produced a cameo innings, before he also fell.

Chris Beanland and Adrian Day rebuilt, and both reached their half-centuries. Beanland fell for 54, but Scott Upward (22) and Tom Heighes (36 not out) both scored at a quick rate as Waverley scored 203 for five.

After tea Whiteditch openers Leroy Abbott and Andy Barrett had difficulty getting the ball away, and both fell leg before wicket. Dave Chambers (18) looked to score but holed out at mid-off, although Rams keeper Cray Sams (27) kept the scoreboard ticking until he was stumped off Adam Carmicheal’s bowling (four for 14).

Day changed his bowlers to try to prise out the home side, but Whiteditch hung on and finished on 100 for eight.

After 51 seasons of playing cricket, Waverley legend Peter Brewer hung up his boots.

Many current and ex-players turned up to watch the game and formed a guard of honour to see him off the pitch.
