Snow and then rain has caused a raft of postponements in the Hampshire Premier League over the last fortnight. However, Liphook played twice over Easter, with wildly contrasting results.

On Saturday, Liphook were thrashed 8-0 by Paulsgrove – an ominous result for Liphook as the teams are due to meet in the County Intermediate Cup final.

On a good playing surface in Portsmouth, Paulgrove gave an excellent team performance, Danny Lane leading the way with a hat-trick. Paulsgrove move to third in the Senior Division, two points ahead of Liphook who have played six more games.

Colden Common won 5-3 at Sway and in the only other game to go ahead, Liss Athletic scored three late goals to win 3-1 at bottom side Hedge End who had led 1-0 at the break. Josh Benfield, the league’s leading marksman, scored twice and Dave Harding got the third.

On Easter Monday, after heavy overnight rain, Liphook switched their home game against Overton to Bordon and bounced back with a 5-1 victory.

Five different players scored for Liphook – Ryan Angear and Ali Gill in the first half, Oli Page, Peter Lovas and Steve Harding in the second period. This after Steve Price had given Overton an early lead.

Several teams tried to cut their backlog of fixtures by playing in difficult conditions, some choosing the 3G option.

In a midweek fixture, Infinity extended their lead in the Senior Division after conceding home advantage and winning 4-2 at Hayling United. Callum Parker scored twice for Infinity.

On Monday, Infinity hired Alton’s 3G pitch and cruised to a 6-0 win against QK Southampton, but Bush Hill kept up the pressure by hammering Fleetlands 8-1. Mark Barker scored a hat-trick.

Headley managed to play in Division One and recorded a welcome 4-1 victory over visitors Upham. Connor Burdett, Max Heath and Steve Brown were on target for Headley, with Upham contributing an own goal.
