A MAN’S body was discovered in Gostrey Meadow in Farnham town centre in the early hours of Tuesday morning, police have confirmed.

The death is currently being treated as “unexplained” by police, and forensics officers are currently at the scene.

All entrances to the meadow have been cordoned off by police, on both sides of the River Wey, with Surrey Police warning the meadow “will be inaccessible to the public for some time”.

A police spokesman added: “Officers are currently on scene at Gostrey Meadow in Farnham following the discovery of a man’s body earlier this morning (May 3).

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”

A police spokesman earlier confirmed officers responded to “an incident”in the meadow at around 5.46am.

There continues to be a large police presence in the area, and a blue tarpaulin has been erected close to the town war memorial.
