phone fraudsters are targeting the Haslemere area, a woman who was targeted several times has warned.
The woman, who has asked to to remain anonymous, told The Herald: “I had what Action Fraud Police considered to be a serious scam.
“Fortunately I became suspicious and hung up but I am worried others will be taken in as he was well spoken and very plausible.
“I was first called a month ago by someone called ‘Dave’, who said he was from the UK Home Improvements Centre. He rang again this week and asked if I had got my £500 home improvements voucher.
“It was very scary because he knew my full name and where I live and he said he was calling people in the GU27 Haslemere area.
“He asked me to give him all my details so he could send me a voucher but I became suspicious and hung up.
“I reported both calls to Action Fraud Police, who told me it was a ‘phishing’ call to get me to reveal my bank account details. They told me it was a really serious sounding scam.
“I asked him how he got my name and dress as I’m ex-directory and he said he got it from a national database.
“According to Action Fraud Police, no such thing exists.”
