Alton Repair Café carried out around 200 repairs to items that might otherwise have ended up in landfill during 2023.

Town mayor Cllr Ben Hamlin recently made his second visit to the café, this time to have his mayoral chain repaired.

He also talked to the repairers about what they were doing – which included fixing a kettle, a stool, some book ends, a rollator, a toaster, trousers and a clock.

Alton Repair Café has operated in Alton Community Centre for four years, with experienced and often qualified repairers in various specialities.

They cannot guarantee to complete a repair on the day but can advise on the next steps.

They aim to pass on their knowledge so people who bring items can have a go themselves in future.

The service is free but donations to cover costs are welcome. For more information email [email protected]
